Our School
Great Ellingham is a Partnership School, with Rocklands Community Primary School. Our headteacher manages both schools. Within the partnership there are opportunities for staff to share expertise, and for pupils to work and play together. A recent Partnership event was an International Week.
Situated in the popular village of Great Ellingham, our School is a County Primary School catering for children from 4 to 11 years. Approximately 156 children, living in and around Great Ellingham, attend the School.
The original building dates from 1896 and many original features can still be seen.
A new classroom was added in 1981. At the same time two traditional classrooms were combined to provide a school hall. In 2004 a spacious four class base extension was completed. The new building is a fine structure, designed to blend with the Victorian building. Internal remodelling has provided the school with a medical room and a much needed staff room. The school has a secure entry system which opens into a well stocked library.
During the Summer of 2006 all the children’s toilets were refurbished and new flooring provided in Class 1 wet area.
Recent improvements have included the addition of a covered outside play area for Class 1, and the construction of a vegetable garden.
The School which faces open countryside has a large playground, adjoined by an extensive playing field. Our grounds include a ‘trim trail’ funded by the Friends of Great Ellingham School and local businesses and a living willow tunnel planted by pupils in 2007.
We are fortunate to have a designated wildlife area, which includes a pond and a swamp. It is in the process of being remodeled. Children have access to this area only under strict supervision. It is a great asset to our outside learning curriculum.
Lunches are cooked on the premises in a modern, well equipped kitchen, which provides lunches for both Great Ellingham and Rocklands Schools.
The entire School site is a smoke free zone. |
